Arada, ProspectSV Join to Spur V2X Apps

Driverless Transportation

Arada Systems has teamed as a technical partner with the influential nonprofit Prospect Silicon Valley in an effort to develop and commercialize vehicle-to-pedestrian safety systems.

Under the agreement, Troy, Mich.-based Arada will connect its LocoMate ME Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) mobile devices to ProspectSV’s Intelligent Transportation Lab, a new open-platform Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) signal laboratory for developing and demonstrating connected vehicle applications.

“Our goal is to provide developers and Silicon Valley start-ups a seamless platform to build Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2X) applications that benefit the City of San Jose and the transportation industry,” Praveen Singh, CEO of Arada Systems, said in a statement.

San Jose, Calif.-based ProspectSV provides its 23,000 square foot demonstration center, lab, testing, and office facilities in partnership with firms that seek to commercialize technology that reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions.

ProspectSV focuses on vehicle technology, traffic systems, energy efficient buildings, renewable energy, and energy storage. It has sponsorship and partnership relationships with Cisco, Continental, Denso, Ericsson, Hyundai Ventures, Toyota, Wells Fargo, and others.

Arada has been working with DSRC for more than a decade and has deployments in Michigan, Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, and Palo Alto, Calif. It manufacturers V2X roadside equipment and on-board units, and developed the first mobile V2X mobile device designed for pedestrian safety, as well as the first V2X rear-view mirror running Android.
