THE DRIVERLESS TRANSPORTATION D20 STOCK INDEX

Delphi

The Driverless Transportation D20 Stock Index crawled over the 140 mark for the first time since November 2014, rising 1.5 percent for the week to close at to 140.441. Winners outnumbered losers 17 to three. BYD (BYDDY) continued its roller coaster ride, jumping more than 9 percent to $7.52. NVIDIA (NVDA), last week’s featured D20 company, posted another strong turn, gaining $1.91 or 9.36 percent, to be the largest percentage gainer in the index. Google (GOOG) was the index’s largest point gainer with shares increasing $18.01, or 3.4 percent, to close Friday at $549.01.

One notable exception to the gains was Tesla Motors (TSLA), which lost 6.3 percent to finish at $203.77, making it the biggest absolute and percentage loser in the D20. Tesla last week reported mediocre fourth quarter earnings and weak sales in China. Tesla continues to see its electric vehicle (EV) competition strengthen as BMW reports strong sales of its i-series cars and rumors have Apple poaching Tesla engineers with a goal to develop its own EV.

This week’s featured D20 Index component, Delphi (DLPH), added $1.54 or 2 percent, to end the week at $78.70, an all-time high for the stock since its re-introduction in 2011 and a gain of 14 percent since last October. JP Morgan Chase and RBC Capital think its going even higher, raising their Delphi price targets to $88.00 and $91.00 respectively, which bodes well for the auto parts maker.
